Real estate lawyer Alan G. Silverstein has been at the forefront of real estate and mortgage issues for over three decades as a writer, lecturer, commentator and media personality. In practice since 1977, Alan G. Silverstein is Certified as a Specialist in Real Estate Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has written 5 books on real estate and mortgage financing, including The Perfect Mortgage and Home Buying Strategies for Resale Homes, along with hundreds of real estate columns for newspapers and magazines (including the Toronto Star, the Toronto Sun, the Globe and Mail, Moneywise magazine, and Canadian Real Estate magazine). Alan G. Silverstein is a regular speaker at Continuing Professional Development programs sponsored by organizations that include the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, and local law associations. He is frequently interviewed on radio and television about real estate and mortgage issues, and is regularly quoted on these topics by the print media.


Alan has also hosted real estate phone-in talk shows on CFRB 1010 AM and Talk 640 AM radio. Between 1997 and 2003 Alan G. Silverstein was a director of the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO), the regulator of real estate agents, brokers and brokerages in Ontario, where he remained a member of the Insurance Committee until 2015. As Chair of the Insurance Committee, Alan designed and implemented the RECO insurance program that offers unprecedented insurance coverage for consumers and the real estate industry. From 2003 to 2015, Alan served as an Elected Bencher at the Law Society of Upper Canada, where he is now an Emeritus Bencher. He is a past Chair of LibraryCo (which manages the Ontario courthouse library system), and a past Chair of the provincial Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund (which compensates consumers who suffer a financial loss when transacting with a registered motor vehicle dealer). From 2012 to 2015 Alan also was a Director of LawPRO (the Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity Company), which provides liability insurance coverage to the legal profession in Ontario.

After working in-house developing TELUS’ Assyst Real Estate initiative (electronic processing of mortgage transactions) from 2006 to 2010, Alan returned to private practice, focusing on real estate issues, mortgage financing, wills and estates.
